What is a Registration Certificate :
It is a written government-approved document (also known as Anmeldung) given to every citizen of Germany, that has the address of your residency. It is proof of the ownership of the house. Citizens including all ex-pats and current nationals of Germany are made compulsory to have a registration certificate.
Why is a Registration certificate necessary:
In order to live in Germany, a registration certificate is required for all kinds of official procedures. It includes:
- For getting a residency permit from the government
- For all kinds of bank transactions
- For studying and enrollment in the university
- For getting a network phone
- For health insurance purposes
- For getting a driving license
- For an internet connection
- For your tax ID
In short, for all types of government-related work, a registration certificate is required.
How to get a Registration certificate:
In order to stay in Germany for more than 3 months are required to get their registration certificate. They are committed to applying for the certificate within the first 14 days of their arrival. Otherwise, the government can take legal action and they could get fines, or could be deported from the country.
- From a Bürgeramt:
To apply for the registration certificate, you will need to provide legal proof of your identity such as a passport or a nationality card (ID card), etc. A residency certificate from the landlord of the house in which you are staying is also compulsory. You will need to visit the registration authority of the municipality of that area and submit your passport, or ID card and a certificate from the person providing the residence.
- Online:
There are also online agencies that provide registration certificates at your home. You can apply through Meldebescheinigung, you can have your registration certificate in your hands in several days. You do not need to go to the concerned department for the certificate. You just need to apply for the certificate and provide us with the required documents. Who are exempted from the Registration certificate:
Although the government of Germany has made strict rules for getting a registration certificate, there are also some exemptions in which a person is not required to have a registration certificate.
- Foreign Diplomates who are there on official trips or performing their duties in Germany
- For officials on the basis of agreements under international law NATO like NATO.
- Foreigners visiting for a short-term (less than 3 months)
- For ex-pats who live outside Germany and make visits for a short period of time.
- Those who are registered at one place but move to other places.
Thus getting a registration certificate depends on the period of time a person lives in the residence. If the duration of your stay is more than 3 months you will apply for a registration certificate unless you are exempted from the list by the government of the country.
