How can you wake up early and face the day when you haven’t had a good night’s sleep? One of the biggest sleep thieves is sleep apnea, an advanced form of snoring. If you have been diagnosed with this issue, then check out some great tips in this article about living with it.

Try playing a wind instrument. Playing the trumpet or a similar musical instrument should help you strengthen your throat and help you control your breathing. Your upper airways should become stronger and remain open throughout the night, which would make the symptoms of sleep apnea disappear or at least reduce them.

If you have sleep apnea because of naturally narrow airways, get a sleep mouth guard. Devices like these can align your airways properly to allow you better sleep. It’s best to see a medical professional to get fitted properly for a guard that will fit your individual situation.

Make sure that the mask you use on your CPAP machine fits properly. Often, people will stop using their CPAP because the mask does not fit right. If your mask is uncomfortable, try getting a different mask. There are many different masks available, so choose one that fits right and is comfortable to use.

Getting a CPAP machine is probably the best option for your sleep apnea. These machines will keep your airways open and help you breathe. You should talk to your doctor about CPAP machines and figure out which model would be the most adapted. This machine should work if you use it properly.

You must be careful not to use sedating medications if you have been diagnosed with sleep apnea. Anything that sedates you will slow down your breathing, especially when you go to sleep. When you are sedated by medication, your throat muscles will relax and collapse more quickly as you sleep.

Consider elevating the head of your bed if you suffer from sleep apnea. As you sleep, gravity is constantly pulling on your muscles and causing your airway to close. If you elevate the head of your bed a bit, the slight incline makes it easier for your body to maintain your airway when you are sleeping.

Keeping a sleep log can help your doctor diagnose you with sleep apnea. The intent is for you to record both the overall amount of sleep you get and any unusual symptoms or incidents that occur. If you have a partner, you can find out about snoring issues, breathing issues or flailing limb issues. Your doctor can use this information to determine if you actually suffer from sleep apnea.

Always have your CPAP machine with you while you sleep, even if it happens to be during a hospital stay. It is critical to have your CPAP available to you, along with your mask at all times. You have already set the pressure to the appropriate level, and you are accustomed to the mask that you have been using nightly. All of this will mean much better sleep for you with your CPAP, if you need hospitalization for any length of time.

Try sleeping with nasal strips to open your nasal passageways. If you suffer from sleep apnea, this can offer some relief to your symptoms, especially snoring. When your sleep is less interrupted by waking periods when you cannot breathe, you receive a better night of rest and often see your symptoms disappear.

You will find it easier to go to sleep and remain asleep if you follow a schedule. Go to bed at the same time, follow a bedtime routine if it helps you relax and get at least eight hours of sleep every night. Create the ideal environment for you to sleep in.

If you are a trucker who has sleep apnea, take precautions to stay safe on the road. First of all, get yourself properly diagnosed and treated. If your doctor prescribes a CPAP, use it. They are small and easily portable and can run on battery power if necessary. Try to stay fit and get regular sleep to keep your condition under control.

How you sleep each night can determine the quality of sleep you get and how bad your sleep apnea really is. Thus, it is critical to sleep with your body in the proper position. Lift your body up by using a foam wedge at the top of the bed. Try to also prevent yourself from falling off the bed in the middle of the night.

If you are one of the many who suffers from sleep apnea, avoid sleeping on your back. When you sleep on your back, it often ends up blocking your airways, which in turn will cause problems with sleeping. Try sleeping on your side. You may need some pillow to keep you in this position.

Avoid anything that can make your sleep apnea worse, especially high altitudes. Sleeping in a high altitude ie. airplanes can actually make your symptoms worse as the loss of oxygen increases. If you must travel, make sure you talk to your physician about how you can relieve your symptoms of sleep apnea.

When you are sleeping, in addition to laying on your side, it is also useful to prop your head up. This can be done by using an extra pillow or even a special pillow designed for people who suffer from apnea. A special wedge pillow is the perfect shape for this function.

Your head and your throat should be aligned when you sleep. You can align your airways by sleeping on your side and propping your head with a small pillow. You should try different positions and wait a few minutes in each position to see which one allows you to breathe comfortably.

While it is difficult to completely remove sleep apnea, you can learn to live with it through tips like those found in this article. If you liked them, be sure to share this article with friends and loved ones who suffer from the same problem. This will help everyone to get a better night’s rest.
